Ever heard of new lease of life? This is what exactly Keddi Foundation, under the stewardship of Hon. Steven Keddi did to pupils, teachers and parents of Buwuma Primary School in Namisindwa District in Eastern Uganda.
With a donation of 1.2 million dollars, Keddi renovated a dilapidated school block housing almost all classes in which pupils would sit with no roof.
With the desire to attain education and become “somebody” in future, the pupils of Buwuma had to brave heavy rains or scorching sun to sit in this unroofed block.
The school administrators told Hon Keddi that the learners turnup had waned as some pupils couldn’t stand the condition of this open block fearing for life that one day it could cave in.
But all this anguish is long gone, these children and their teachers can comfortably sit in class with no worry of returning home wet or as dry as coffee beans and neither rain nor sunshine can affect them, thanks to Keddi Foundation.
The Foundation roofed the building, provided scholastic materials to children and advised teachers to immediately set-up a SACCO which the organization will fund to help the teachers save, pool resources and develop their lives.
And because health is a ‘weapon’ that enhances success, the Foundation also built a gender sensitive pit latrine for the children to ensure that children are safe from diseases.
In his speech, Keddi told gathering which welcomed the donation in excitement that the Foundation couldn’t wait for government to undertake to revamp the school because it’s (government) dealing with a lot problems varying from economy, security, politics and among others.
Keddi Foundation is known to have supported many vulnerable people including landslide victims in Bulambuli District and a 6-year-old boy Shakur Omiat who was collecting used plastic bottles to sell them off and look after his family.
