The FDC secretary general Hon Nathan Nandala Mafabi has responded to his former boss Retired Col Kizza Besigye with a barrage of outbursts after the latter yesterday branded the former a liar as the FDC founding father explained the trail of dirty money that has split the party.
Addressing a news conference at Katonga Road in Kampala, Col Besigye wept saying the struggle against the regime had been costly with some members paying a heavy price including death for supporting the FDC.
However, it was unfortunate that some officials in the party had instead chosen to dine with the tormentor.
Besigye in 2007 lost his brother Joseph Musasizi Kifefe who had been incarcerated multiple times on accusations of attempting to overthrow government.
On Monday Besigye explained that indeed he received shs 300 million from Hon Mafabi at 10pm but it’s false that the money was meant to facilitate polling agents.
Responding to Besigye, Mafabi who spoke to New Vision dismissed his former boss’ account of events as ‘not sincere’, noting that he would also reveal the sources of Besigye’s dirty money.
“Dr Besigye has been the FDC presidential candidate four times and during how and all those times, he has been very well funded. I and Besigye know very well where he was getting his funding. But all that time up to now, nobody has ever asked him about the source of his funding,” he said.
“If we decided to come out and reveal all the sources of his funding now, this country will be in flames. I want to tell you that Besigye is not being sincere and he is doing whatever he is doing in bad faith. Being at Katonga Road, he wanted to use that place to capture the party,” he said.
Mafabi also said Besigye has suddenly developed a jealous approach towards Amuriat.
“He is just being selfish and jealous. When he left the party, he thought we would collapse, but he is seeing us moving ahead every day and this is not going down well with him. Now, how will blame Museveni that he manipulates the Constitution all the time when he himself is breaking what is clearly put down In the FDC constitution? Besigye wants to use force all the time. He thinks he is the alpha and omega in FDC. No!” Mafabi said.
Mafabi also said Besigye is not a founding member of FDC.
“First of all, he is not a founder member of the FDC. When we were starting this party, he was in South Africa. It is from there that he joined us after we had started the party. If he actually says he is a founding member, a founding party father as he likes to be referred to, let him show the country where he signed when we founded the party. I want to call on Ugandans to resist this man. It is us who have been telling people that he is a good man but he has now turned out to be a very bad man,” he said.
“When he received the sh300m, he took it to his brother who is a moneylender In town and that is how it ended up being exchanged into dollars. Anyway, it is a long story. But as far as I understand Besigye, he is doing everything out of jealousy for Amuriat who he thought couldn’t take the party forward and all of us at Najjanankumbi. Everything is in bad faith and that is very bad,” he added.
