President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has issued a stern warning to the assassins of Arua Municipality Hon Ibrahim Abiriga that they will be hunted and killed.
Museveni sounded the warning while paying last funeral rites to the departed MP who was shot dead last Friday evening along with his brother Said Kongo.
Abiriga was killed in his car a few metres from his home in Kawanda, Wakiso District.
On Monday as he addressed mourners at Abiriga’s native home in Lukodu village in Rhino camp Sub County, Arua district, Museveni said he was “angry but confident” his killers will face justice very soon.
The President is resolute Abiriga’s murder is linked to his political belief as staunch NRM supporter.
Museveni wondered why the ruling party has never thought of eliminating its political opponent.
He cited an example of former Terego County legislator Hon Kasiano Wadri who at his time in Parliament strongly opposed the regime.
“I couldn’t kill him but I prayed and also asked the people of Terego to save me from this man. Because at one time I would need him,” said the President adding that the regime is very much experienced in war and therefore those poking their nose by killing its supporters will face justice.
Whereas he admits there still laxity in security, Museveni pledged to intensify intelligence and also regulate social media which has been used by regime opponents to blackmail and also incite violence among the public.
Abiriga and his brother Said Kongo have been laid to rest Monday.
