A yet to be identified armed UPDF soldier has been filmed manhandling a traffic police officer on duty in Kampala for reportedly not clearing way for the military vehicle.
The incident happened on Monday morning.
Witnesses who recorded the video that has since circulated widely on social media platforms say, the soldier jumped out of the powerful green military SUV number D02DF08P in Nakasero near Mukwano Mall and ordered the cop to clear way for him and his colleagues.
However, the officer politely asked them to be patient. The words fell on a deaf ear of the angry combatant who according to witnesses fired a bullet that damaged a civilian’s car registration number UAR 308L, before he dragged the officer by a collar and pulled him to military car
The police and the Army haven’t spoken out on the incident, neither identified both men involved in the altercation.
This is not the first time soldiers are assaulting traffic cops on duty. In January a UPDF soldier shot and injured a traffic officer in Kampala suburb of Ntinda after a military car was involved in an accident.
In 2019, bodyguards belonging to UPDF Gen Matayo Kyaligonza beat up a female traffic cop in Seeta Mukono after they, together with their boss violated traffic rules.
