MTN CEO Wim Vanhellepute has Friday handed over 3 brand new Nissan Hardbody pickups to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, The Prime Minister Hon Ruhakana Rugunda and the National COVID task force.
MTN’s donation comes five days after Museveni publically rejected data and SMS contributions while he read benefactors of COVID-19 taskforce.
He said the telecom would rather donate cars instead of data.
President Museveni had earlier made a request to all rich Ugandans and companies to donate at least two vehicles, and to be specific pickups with four-wheel drive.
The vehicles according to President Museveni are to help transport the food to vulnerable Ugandans who are affected by the 35 days of shutdown.
He therefore set up a committee which will oversee these donations and it is led by Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda.
On Friday while flagging off the fleet of cars donated by Ugandans at Kololo grounds, Museveni also received MTN cars with a huge smile.
