Ruparelia Foundation, the charity arm of the Ruparelia Group and Gateway Delta, real estate development company out of Mauritius, have today donated a consignment of 4,000 food kits to be distributed to especially Kampala’s urban poor.

Each of the 4,000 food kits contains 2 kilograms of posho, 1 kilogram of sugar, 1 kilogram of beans, and detergent soap/1 bar of soap.

This is the third time the Ruparelia Foundation is making Covid-19 related donations. The first time, the group made a donation of 5,000 food kits to Kampala Central residents. The group also donated two Tata pickup trucks in response to President Museveni’s call on the business community to support government efforts to fight Covid-19.

In a media statement, Mr. Rajiv Ruparelia, Managing Director of Ruparelia Group of Companies and a trustee at Ruparelia Foundation said that during this crisis, there are many people who have lost their jobs and are currently unable to support themselves, which is why the group is stepping in to give back in this time of need.

He said that the country is going through one of its most difficult periods since its independence in 1962.

“We are fighting a disease that cannot be seen. In comparison to some countries in Europe and America and China which, have recorded Covid-19 related deaths in their thousands, we in Uganda are so far lucky in that not a single death has been recorded. This does not mean that we should relax. If anything, we must continue to heed the directives of President Museveni and Dr. Ruth Acheng, the Minister of Health, if we are to come out of the crisis unscathed,” he said.

Gateway Delta, the Mauritius property developer, in June 2019 acquired Metroplex Shopping Mall in Naalya, a Kampala suburb, and is investing USD20 million into redeveloping the shopping complex.
