Opposition politician Muwanga Kivumbi has reportedly been arrested again, less than a day after he was released on bail and vowed to resume his political activities.
According to National Unity Platform (NUP) secretary general Lewis Rubongoya, Kivumbi was intercepted on Friday while travelling from his home in Butambala to Kampala.
He was reportedly stopped at a security roadblock in Mpigi before being taken away by security operatives to an unknown destination.
The circumstances surrounding the arrest remain unclear, and it was not immediately known which security agency was responsible or whether any fresh charges had been preferred against him.
The latest development comes just hours after Kivumbi addressed hundreds of supporters at his residence in Butambala following his release on bail after spending seven months in prison.
During the emotional homecoming, Kivumbi declared that imprisonment had not broken his resolve and announced that he would rest for only two days before resuming what he described as the struggle against the government.
He also told supporters that he was prepared to continue fighting “until the last drop of my blood” in pursuit of political change, adding that even if he did not live to see that goal achieved, he hoped his courage would inspire others to continue the struggle.
His speech also included sharp criticism of Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba and members of the First Family, remarks that quickly attracted widespread attention and sparked debate among political observers.
