The Executive Director of the Uganda Bureau of Statistics, Dr. Chris Mukiza, has strongly dismissed allegations that he attempted to shoot Rubanda West MP Moses Kamuntu, describing the claims as false, malicious, and intended to tarnish both his reputation and that of the Bureau.
The allegations, which originated from an article published by eagle.co.ug, claimed that Mukiza was involved in a confrontation with Kamuntu at a hotel in Kololo, during which he allegedly attempted to draw a firearm.
Mukiza has categorically denied the incident, insisting that no such confrontation ever occurred.
“This story is baseless, false, and crafted with malicious intent to damage both my personal reputation and the image of the Bureau,” he said.
He further accused the publishers of engaging in “lazy and armchair journalism,” alleging that the claims are part of a scheme aimed to dent his image through defamatory reporting.
Police have also distanced themselves from the allegations. Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed that no such incident has been reported at any police station within their jurisdiction.
“There is no record of any confrontation involving the individuals mentioned,” Owoyesigyire stated.
Mukiza also dismissed claims that he was driving under the influence at the time of the alleged incident, clarifying that he does not drive himself when using official government vehicles. He noted that he is always chauffeured by an official driver and accompanied by a trained security detail capable of handling any potential threats.
He described the accusations as a direct attack on his moral and professional integrity, maintaining that his leadership record speaks for itself.
Mukiza urged the public to remain cautious and avoid spreading unverified information, warning that such reports, often driven by rumors and personal vendettas, can cause significant reputational harm.
The allegations have since circulated widely on social media, but Mukiza insists they should be treated with the contempt they deserve.
