Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, the head of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC) and one of President Yoweri Museveni’s most outspoken grassroots mobilisers, has publicly signaled that she may be ready to leave her current role after five years in office.
In a video interview now circulating, Namyalo known for her combative political style and no-holds-barred public messaging is heard saying she is “tired” of the office she currently holds and believes it is time for someone else to take over and continue from where she stops.
Her remarks are likely to trigger fresh debate within ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) circles, where the ONC, based in Kyambogo, has in recent years become one of the most visible centres of political mobilisation for Museveni, especially among youth, women and urban support groups.
But it is Namyalo’s second revelation in the same interview that is likely to draw even more attention.
She disclosed that when she initially sought an appointment with President Museveni, her desire was not necessarily to head the ONC office, but rather to serve at the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA).
According to Namyalo, Museveni instead deployed her to the Kyambogo-based ONC office, where she has since built a profile as one of the President’s fiercest political foot soldiers.
Now, five years later, she appears to be openly reviving that ambition.
In the interview, Namyalo reiterates that she remains interested in serving as the head of UCAA, effectively making one of the clearest public declarations yet of her desire for redeployment from the political trenches of Kyambogo to one of the country’s most strategic government agencies.
Her comments have immediately fueled speculation about whether Museveni could consider her for a new assignment in the event of a broader government shake-up.
While there is no official indication yet that such a transfer is imminent, her remarks come at a politically significant time, with expectations already building around a possible major reshuffle following Museveni’s anticipated swearing-in for a seventh elected term.
For now, it remains unclear whether the President will grant Namyalo’s wish or retain her in the ONC role where she has become both influential and controversial.
Over the years, Namyalo has transformed the Office of the National Chairman from a relatively low-profile political desk into a highly visible mobilisation machine, complete with empowerment drives, youth outreach campaigns and high-energy pro-Museveni messaging.
Supporters view her as a fearless mobiliser who has helped energise NRM structures, particularly in opposition-leaning urban areas.
Critics, however, see her as the face of a patronage-heavy political operation that often blurs the line between party mobilisation and state influence.
Whether her latest comments are simply a cry of fatigue, a calculated political signal, or an early lobbying pitch for a more powerful public office, one thing is clear: Hadijah Namyalo has now publicly declared that Kyambogo may no longer be where she wants to stay.
