Fresh details contained in a comprehensive official police report seen by this investigative website, into the murder of Uganda Christian University (UCU) Director of Student Affairs, Pamela Tumwebaze , indicate that she had been separated from her husband for approximately 10 years and was in the process of formalising her divorce at the time of her death.
The revelation is contained in Mukono Police Division CRB 195/2026, which is investigating her death as murder by strangulation.
Police state that Tumwebaze, 46, had long separated from Alexander (Alex) Matsiko and had begun formal divorce proceedings. Alex is a lawyer and and a businessman who lives in Kungu, in Wakiso District.
She had been residing in Gwaffu West Village, Seeta, Mukono District, where the incident occurred at around 2:00am on February 11.
According to the report, she had returned home at about 10:00pm on February 10 with her two sons, aged 14 and 10. The family went to bed peacefully.
At approximately 2:00am, the housemaid reportedly discovered a man inside the deceased’s bedroom with the lights switched on. The suspect was allegedly wearing one of the deceased’s jean dresses and demanding house keys. When questioned, he reportedly claimed to be “among the family children of the home.”
The maid alerted the two boys, who confirmed they did not know the man. The suspect then exited through the main door carrying the deceased’s laptop bag.
Tumwebaze was later found unconscious in her bed and was pronounced dead on arrival at Namirembe Church of Uganda Hospital.
Police described the scene as an indoor crime scene with an accessible perimeter wall fence. Blood stains were observed on the bed and samples collected for forensic examination. A sniffer dog tracked the suspect’s scent up to Namilyango main road before losing trace.
The case is being handled by a multi-agency team, including homicide detectives, Scene of Crime Officers, forensic experts from Naguru, KMP East CID, and the Directorate of Intelligence Services.
Police say inquiries remain ongoing to identify and apprehend the assailant.
The confirmation that Tumwebaze had been separated for a decade and was formalising divorce proceedings adds a new dimension to the background of the case, though investigators have not indicated any direct linkage to the motive at this stage.
Investigations remain active.
