Following a highly competitive National Resistance Movement (NRM) primary election in July 2025, Bushenyi District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Katusiime Annet Mugisha, has embarked on a district-wide “listening tour” aimed at engaging voters and deepening her connection with communities.

In the primaries, Hon. Katusiime secured victory with 50,000 votes, defeating her main challenger, Ms. Viana Kemigisha Kashaya, who polled 29,000 votes. Despite the win, the legislator says she expected broader support and has since chosen to consult voters directly to understand their concerns and expectations ahead of the 2026 general elections.

“These are not campaign rallies but listening sessions,” Hon. Katusiime explained. “I am here to appreciate the people of Bushenyi for their support and to understand their feedback so we can serve better together.”

During her visits across villages in Bushenyi Municipality and Igara West Constituency, residents openly discussed issues that influenced their voting behavior. Some admitted that they had expected financial facilitation during the primaries, similar to what other candidates reportedly provided. Instead, Hon. Katusiime opted for modest appreciation—serving refreshments such as sodas and cakes—as a reflection of her values of integrity and modesty. Several voters acknowledged that this led to protest votes, which they now regret.

Since then, many of these voters have expressed renewed confidence in Hon. Katusiime, commending her for running a dignified and transparent campaign. They praised her continued focus on service delivery, wealth creation, and community empowerment across the district.

Another key issue that emerged from the meetings was disunity among her campaign agents, with some accused of supporting rival candidates. Voters advised the MP to reorganize her team to ensure unity and stronger coordination as the elections draw closer.

Hon. Katusiime received the feedback graciously, noting:

“Every piece of advice from the people of Bushenyi is a gift. It helps strengthen our bond and refine our strategy for better service.”

Beyond the consultations, the MP unveiled a comprehensive manifesto capturing her achievements and future goals. It details her record prior to joining Parliament (2017–2021), her work as Woman MP (2021–2025), and her vision for 2026–2031, which aligns with the upcoming NRM Manifesto.

Her plans include expanding community wealth creation initiatives, supporting poultry and coffee farmers through input subsidies, and promoting youth empowerment through sports and mindset-change programs designed to boost productivity and foster positive attitudes among young people.

As the district gears up for the 2026 polls, Hon. Katusiime continues to emphasize peaceful engagement, unity, and shared development, reaffirming her commitment to serve all residents of Bushenyi with renewed dedication and accountability.
