The People’s Front for Freedom Party (PFF), a new political group led by former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president Col. (Rtd) Dr. Kizza Besigye, has officially applied for registration with the Electoral Commission and its been gazetted.
According to General Notice No. 1346 published in The Uganda Gazette, the application was filed under Section 6(4) of the Political Parties and Organisations Act, Cap. 178. The party’s headquarters are located at Plot 4-6, Katonga Road, P.O. Box 29628, Kampala.
The party’s symbol is a mobile phone handset engraved with the initials “PFF,” and its colours are white with a stripe of royal blue. The slogan reads: “Freedom for all – All for freedom.” The symbol is intended to represent modern communication and inclusivity, while the colour scheme is said to stand for peace, truth, justice, and accountability.
The PFF emerges as a splinter faction from the FDC, a party Besigye founded in 2004. He parted ways with the current FDC leadership following internal wrangles. Besigye and his allies were effectively sidelined by FDC Secretary General Hon. Nandala Mafabi and party president Patrick Oboi Amuriat, leading to the formation of a separate political front under his leadership.
In accordance with established procedure, the Electoral Commission has called for any objections to the party’s registration to be filed within 14 days from the date of publication. Petitions must be formally lodged at the Electoral Commission offices on Plot 1-3/5, Seventh Street, Industrial Area, Kampala.
The notice was signed and issued by Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, on May 13, 2025.
