Russian President Vladimir Putin has lauded President Yoweri Museveni’s leadership and Uganda’s growing prominence on the global stage, as the Ugandan leader celebrated his 80th birthday. In a message from Moscow, Putin commended Museveni for his pivotal role in advancing Uganda’s socio-economic development and strengthening ties between Uganda and Russia.
Under Museveni’s leadership, Uganda has witnessed substantial progress, particularly in economic reforms and international engagement. “Uganda has made great strides in both socio-economic development and strengthening its global position,” Putin stated, adding that the cooperation between the two nations has notably deepened in recent years.
Putin’s message also reflected on the robust bilateral relations between Russia and Uganda, especially in areas of trade, security, and education. He wished Museveni good health and continued success in his leadership.
Museveni’s milestone birthday was celebrated with a thanksgiving ceremony in Nakaseke district, a region historically linked to his rise to power. The event, organized by Minister Alice Kaboyo of the Luweero Triangle, was held at Kijaguzo Catholic Parish. Kaboyo emphasized the significance of the location, recounting how the parish had offered refuge to Museveni during the guerrilla war that led to his presidency.
“We chose this venue because it played a vital role during the liberation struggle. The president would come here for reflection during the war,” Kaboyo noted during her speech.
Museveni, known for his humble approach to personal celebrations, was surrounded by local residents and supporters, who took part in the occasion, which included prayers, speeches, and a communal luncheon.
Born on September 15, 1944, in Ntungamo, Museveni has been a defining figure in Uganda’s political landscape. His leadership has steered the country through decades of transformation, earning him both domestic and international recognition.
As Uganda continues to navigate its role in a rapidly changing world, Museveni’s leadership remains a central pillar in shaping the nation’s future, with strong partnerships like those with Russia marking a new era of cooperation.
