Polling in Oyam by-election has been disrupted by a vote-stuffing incident by armed people believed to be supporters of the NRM candidate at Wanglobo Polling Station.

The gun wielding military men have also made away with a ballot box and assaulted presiding officers who attempted to resist these rogue security officers.

The Electoral Commission administration has intervened by withdrawing the stuffed ballot box, replaced it with a fresh one, thus denying the would-be beneficiary the undue advantage from the illegal act.

The Commission has described the incident as unfortunate and continues to urge the public to report any such illegal acts to its query/complaints desk on: 0800 300 121 ( Toll-free); 0800 300 122 ( Toll-free) and 0392 004 530 (non-toll-free).

Several other incidents of ballot stuffing have been reported in the ongoing polling compelling the Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) president Jimmy Akena to engage in verbal exchange with NRM electoral chairman Dr Tanga Odoi.

Earlier two UPC local leaders were arrested by Police on allegations of voter bribery.

The race is between NRM candidate Samuel Engola and UPC’s Eunice Apio.
