The Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Judiciary, Dr. Pius Bigirimana has been awarded an exceptional medal – The Distinguished Order of the Nile Class One- for his extraordinary service he has rendered to the nation.
Bigirimana received the highest medal to be awarded to a civilian alongside Makerere University Business School (MUBS) Principal Prof Wasswa J Balunywa during this year’s Labour Day celebrations in Namutumba District on Monday.
Bigirimana and Balunywa are the only recipients of this distinguished award.
In his service as a Permanent Secretary, Bigirimana has exuded an aura of extraordinary leadership, fight against corruption and also inspiration to the young and old.
He has authored many books but most remarkable, “wolf in sheep’s skin” where he demystifies corruption as a cancer which needs an iron hand to be fought or else it destroys Uganda as a country.
The PS has made tremendous contribution in his stellar service prompting President Yoweri Museveni to nickname him “pumpkin seed” which germinates in any form of environment- on a rock, in sand.
Bigirimana’s latest achievement is overseeing the construction twin tower skyscrapers which will house Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.
The PS has managed to mobilise funds in less than two years of his appointment into the judiciary as the buildings are nearing completion.
Ministry of Gender and Labour said the medals given to Bigirimana and Balunywa are also inline to exceptional personalities who have had a profound footprint in the labour sector.
Bigirimana served as PS in the Labour and Gender Ministry where he left a hallmark of great works, picking the ministry from scratch to where it is now.
Labour Day event being presided over by H.E Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, attracted a large representation of workers’, employers’ and government officials as well as religious and cultural leaders, diplomatic corps, private sector players and residents of Namutumba and neighbouring districts.
