The Ministry of Health will provide HIV testing services and Covid-19 vaccination at Nyege Nyege festival.

The mega entertainment event has formally kicked off today and will run up to Saturday.

Partiers across East Africa and beyond the borders have already thronged Itanda falls in Jinja city with hotels, guest houses, resorts fully booked.

Ministry of Health spokesperson Emmanuel Ainebyoona said the Ministry will provide HIV testing services to ensure safety of the revelers.

Earlier reports indicated that government of Uganda through the ministry of Health and Uganda Aids Commission has dispatched one million condoms.

“We are bringing vaccination and HIV testing services,” Ainebyoona said without providing details whether the amenities are free of charge.

Over 50000 people are expected to participate in the popular fete which has been the talk on social media for close to a month.

It recently polarized cabinet with a section of Ministers against it while the executive gave the event green light.

The Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Anita Among is among powerful government officials who fought Nyege Nyege alleging that it’s a breeding ground for immorality and homosexuality.
