The new Minister of justice and constitutional affairs, Norbert Mao has Wednesday taken oath of allegiance and received instruments of office at State House Entebbe, a function presided over by President Museveni.

At some point, the two principals were political adversaries as Mao sought to democratically unseat Museveni in two unsuccessful presidential elections.

However, last week the two leaders signed a cooperation agreement a day before Mao was announced the new Minister of Justice.

Speaking about Mao, Museveni said wooing the DP president general in his government has been a fourth attempt.

“Regarding Mao, that is a different logic. Mao has different individual qualities as a leader which I have been watching for a long time.  More Importantly this is the 4th attempt by patriots to unite Uganda politically,” Museveni said.

He added that, “Mao is our old efforts of uniting Uganda so that it becomes stable and sustainably strong.”

After the function Museveni congratulated Mao saying he comes to government with wealthy experience.

“I congratulate Mr Norbert Mao upon taking the oath of office as the Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs. Your vast leadership experience will be instrumental in the unity we seek as a country and the solutions we desire for our people. Apwoyo bino!” Museveni tweeted.
