Lt. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has scoffed as those who were underestimated his popularity until his birthday celebrations sent shockwaves down their political spine.
With confidence, Muhoozi on Tuesday firmly declared that Uganda belongs to his team. In the tweet, the General attached pictures of masses of fans celebrating him but also images of his supporters carrying placards with 2026 presidential message.
“They were joking with us until they saw how strong we are! Uganda is ours! No one shall ever intimidate us! Uganda belongs to Team MK!,” he tweeted.
The events to Mark the UPDF commander’s 48 years of age, have since shaped the political debate in the country, with many insisting that the celebrations at Lugogo in Kampala, State House dinner and Kololo marathon were a launch of his political career.
A humble, composed and very calculative with words, the former commander SFC appealed to government to heavily invest in youth.
Youth in Uganda are the youngest population in the world, with 77% of its population being under 25 years of age.
If at all Muhoozi has a Presidential ambition, his support base would be derived from this age bracket.
Majority of his supporters who are the youth describe him as “our generational leader.”
Muhoozi while at Lugogo confessed that “It touches my heart when I see Ugandans recognize the work we have been doing. I always say I know all the bushes in Uganda. I am never on holiday. I am always working for Uganda but today Ugandans are celebrating everywhere, in universities and in towns.”
The mega Lugogo event was organised by Michael Nuwagira alias Toyota.
Addressing guests at State House dinner hosted by President Yoweri Museveni, Muhoozi thanked his parents for raising him but thanked the chief guest Rwandan President Paul Kagame more for honoring his invite.
In his speech, Museveni said Muhoozi would impatiently deal with the corrupt.
Kagame said Muhoozi was destined for many good things ahead.
