Former Vice President Prof. Gilbert Bukenya who until today claims mafia led to his fall from government, has advised the current Prime Minister to simply desist from disturbing this corrupt cartel.
For long been before he was shown exit from government in 2010, Bukenya decried witch-hunt orchestrated by a group he referred to as “mafia” that wanted him out.
The veteran politician on Thursday told NBSTV that has chosen to quit politics and live a humble life at his residence and follow events from the sidelines.
“There are times and moments of silence and moments of making noise. These are moments of silence, but the “Mahogany” is still standing. I am still alive and enjoying my old age. I think now I have quit politics,” he said.
Before his sacking, Mr Bukenya had been jailed in Luzira on allegations of mismanaging shs 500 billion meant for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) which took place in Kampala in 2007.
Bukenya, attempted to ally with several opposition groups but he was unsuccessful.
During his time in government he christened himself “Mahogany” tree with deep roots that can’t easily be shaken by wind.
However, the Ex VP says the unscrupulous cabal is very toxic and will “remove any tree with deep roots.”
“The mafia group is big, it participates in corruption and will remove any tree however deep the roots are. The mafia group wants to take over the country. It will try to destabilize anybody who is sincere to this country,” said.
“The time I raised the issues of mafias, people ignored me but aren’t you hearing people talking about them now?” He asked.
He thus advised the new Premier to go slow on the corrupt.
“I pray for Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja. I advise her to go slow because these people (mafias) are not ready to be disturbed.”
Bukenya’s remarks follow Hon Nabbanja’s revelation that some unknown people have since threatened to harm her and the family should she continue poking her nose in their business.
