Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala has written a moving letter mourning the passing of Prelate Cyprian Lwanga who succeeded him as Kampala Archbishop.

Lwanga was found dead in his room on Saturday.

He will be laid to rest on Thursday inside Rubaga Cathedral Church.

Below is Wamala’s letter:

Dear Fellow mourners’, sending off one’s successor is indeed a painful experience!!! Yet I have to oblige.

The mystery surrounding the abrupt demise of His Grace Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, undoubtedly confirms what our risen Lord Jesus Christ said when giving us His stern warning that “you also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected.” (Luke 12:40).

In the journey of my late beloved successor’s ministry, there are three major events that touched me and I vividly remember while unceasingly thank God, who availed me the opportunity to perform them.

In 1978, April, 10th I had the privilege of being closer while assisting him during the celebration of his very First Mass by opening the Missal for him at Kyabakadde.

In 1997 when Pope BenedictXVl chose him first Bishop of Kasana luwero, it was my privilege to consecrate him on the 10 March; and in 2006, when he was appointed 3rd Archbishop of Kampala it was me who happily received him and had the honor of Installing him on the 30th September at Lubaga Cathedral.

So sending him off today moreover spiritually, due to my frailty, you can all imagine what goes on within my Heart!!! given that when death occurs sooner than is normal or expected, brings about a high level of anxieties.

May Jesus Christ the risen lord receive his soul in eternity.
