Police has confirmed arresting and detaining an American national Guy Milton Smith from Fort Portal for his alleged involvement in activities deemed anti- government and rebellious.

Speaking to the media after this website broke a story that Mr Smith had been reportedly kidnapped by a group of gunmen on Sunday morning after breaking into his house in Fort Portal, Police publicist Fred Enanga said the foreigner was not kidnapped but rather arrested by a security team from SID, Kireka.

“A task team from the Special Investigations Division, arrested Guy Smith, an American National, on the 21.03.2021, from Fort Portal for his alleged involvement in Anti government subversive activities,” Enanga said.

He added that Smith remains in custody at SID, Kireka, as inquiries continue.

“Any new information will be communicated accordingly.”

Smith has been recovering from eye surgery he undergone in Mbarara last week, he has been living in Uganda for over 20 years.

Since last year high-ranking officials in government have maintained that a group of foreigners has been meddling into Uganda’s politics to create instability. The President on several occasions warned that any foreigner caught interfering the country’s national security will be dealt with severely.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni said, “those foreigners who don’t listen will be crushed.”
