Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has said National Unity Platform (NUP) protesters will soon give up, warning that those who entered the fighting arena will regret.
He was addressing NRM supporters in Katido on Thursday as he canvassed support for 2021 Presidential elections.
The riots in the Central and Eastern Uganda were Wednesday propelled by the arrest of his competitor Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine who is accused of violating the COVID-19 guidelines.
“They have entered an area of fighting we know very well. Whoever started it will regret,” Museveni said.
The President added; “Some of these groups are being used by outsiders who don’t like the stability and independence of Uganda but will discover what they are looking for”.
“Those who have been attacking NRM people in Kampala will soon lose that appetite. You will see uniform of NRM and won’t touch it. Even if they abandon it you won’t touch it.”
The President added that violence is aimed disrupting elections which he will not allow.
“They want to create violence so that elections are not held. Elections will continue,” he said.
He reminded his opponents that NRM are experts in fighting.
“You have chosen to fight yet NRM are the expert. You are going to regret. Everyone must respect the SOPs set by the Ministry of health.”
