The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has convened a National Council at the party head offices on Thursday to select a Presidential candidate for 2021 general elections.

The party will choose between the party president Patrick Oboi Amuriat (POA) and National Council Chairman Waswa Biriggwa.

The two leaders offered to contest for the flag after the FDC founder Dr. Kizza Besigye announced he wouldn’t challenge his long time rival President Yoweri Museveni in 2021.

Besigye told FDC that he had instead shifted all his energies to “Plan B”, an approach he said would remove Museveni from power before elections are conducted.

Besigye is fond of making huge political promises to his supporters with an intention of raising hopes to all disgruntled Ugandans.

The FDC stalwarts convinced Kizza Besigye to seek a reelection to a point the top administration said he would be unopposed, but he turned down.

This prompted Amuriat and Biriggwa to announce their bid to fill Besigye’s shoes.

The two candidates held joint campaigns across the country for close to two months.

The FDC deputy spokesperson John Kikonyogo on Thursday morning said, National Council delegates were already at Najjanankumbi ready to vote for the two leaders.

Unlike in the past when the party convened a mega delegates conference, this year’s election is different due to COVID-19 pandemic.

The delegates will be represented by National Executive Committee (NEC), MPs and District leaders.

By the time of filing this report both contenders had arrived at Najjanankumbi amid wild cheers and excitement.
