There is brewing violence in Ibanda district following the announcement of Jane Bainomugisha as the winner of NRM primaries for Ibanda Woman MP.
Jane defeated Jovrine Kaliisa with a margin of 100 votes and the latter conceded defeat on Saturday evening.
But in an interesting turn of events, the NRM returning officer Moses Barimwerenga was arrested on Saturday night on accounts of conniving with Jane Bainomugisha to rig the election.
Reports coming in indicate that Kaliisa has since petitioned Ibanda district RDC Eliasto Akatuheebwa and other authorities and have since resolved to recount the votes.
By Mr Barimwerenga was still detained at Ibanda police as preparations for a recount are underway.
Reports suggest that supporters of Kaliisa stormed Barimwerenga’s home and threatened to cause mayhem before he admitted to have worked on ‘orders from above’ to alter the results.
It is against this backdrop that police picked for more questioning.
