Hardly two months after the sacking of URA boss Doris Akol with immediate effect, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has also done away with the Executive Director of National Identification Registration Authority (NIRA) Judy Obitre-Gama citing gross incompetence that has engulfed the institution.
Following President Museveni’s letter dated May 18, NIRA board met this week and sent her on leave that will see her only return to handover.
“I have been informed that the contract of the current Executive Director is due to expire. Given the problems faced by NIRA especially, relating to the issuance of national identity card, there is need to identify new Executive Director,” Museveni letter obtained by this website reads in part.
The President adds that the new Executive Director must be preferably with Legal or Information Technology background.
This website understands that Judy’s contract will expire on July 13.
Museveni therefore directed the relevant Minister of Internal Affairs Jeje Odong to work with NIRA board of directors and identify a suitable replacement for Judy.
“I am therefore directing you to work with the Board of Directors of NIRA and identify a suitable candidate. Consult me, before a final decision is reached on the matter,” Museveni instructs Gen. Jeje Odong.
