Ggwanga Promoted to Major General, Set to Retire This Year

Kasirye Ggwanga is in critical condition.

Maj. Gen. (RTD) Kasirye Ggwanga has been admitted to Nakasero Hospital in critical condition before he became unconscious and taken to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for specialized medical treatment.

Ggwanga, according to reports was admitted Tuesday evening but by press time, experts hadn’t established what the military man was suffering from.

A journalist Steven Dunstan Busuulwa working for Top Radio confirmed the frail UPDF General is fighting for his life at the facility.

“GET WELL SOON: Maj. Gen Rtd Kasirye Ggwanga is admitted at Nakasero hospital in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Praying for quick recovery,” Busuulwa posted on his facebook page a few minutes to midnight.

Last month, Gwanga was rushed to the army hospital at the head offices in Mbuya, Kampala for treatment.

Without disclosing details of the illness, the military publicist Brig. Richard Karemire said experts were diagnosing Ggwanga and would later ascertain cause of the sickness.

“It will be diagnosed by the competent people,” said Karemire.

But the controversial soldier insisted he had been detained at the army headquarters.

“Maj Gen(Rtd) Kasirye Gwanga has been admitted to the UPDF Senior Officers Diagnostic Centre based in Mbuya. Doctors are taking care of him and there is no reason to speculate on his current whereabouts. He is not under any form of arrest,” Karemire maintained.
