The embattled Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Jinja Eric Sakwa is in still in office running state duties as usual.

Sakwa was Friday interdicted by Yunus Kakande, a secretary at the office of the President on grounds that he is being investigated for several charges including manslaughter, theft and malicious damage.

The interdiction followed a court process in which Sakwa had been remanded to Kirinya Prison before acquiring bail by the same Court a few days ago.

The Friday letter however said Sakwa had been asked to leave office with immediate effect.

“You are required to hand over any government property in your possession in accordance with the laid down procedure and regulations,” reads the letter adding that he will receive salary not less than half of his basic pay.

The Jinja district internal security officer will take over from Sakwa in the interim capacity.

The reductions are subject to refund in case the suspension is lifted and charges are dropped, the letter said.

But Sakwa has Monday told the media that he is executing his duties waiting to handover.

“Yes I am in office working. You know am office isn’t like a car that you hand over key just like that,” he said.

He said he is still overseeing COVID-19 related activities in Jinja District until he hands over office.
