The Minister of Local Government Hon. Raphael Magezi has issued stringent directives to district leaders in a bid to fight COVID-19 infection.
Magezi asked the local government leadership to take stern action against an individual who violates President Yoweri Kaguta’s orders during the 14-day lockdown.
Magezi’s letter
I wish to highlight the following guidelines for implementation in your respective areas of jurisdiction.
1) Ensure that all public meetings involving more than five (51 people ore stopped.
2) All LG Council meetings and Committee meetings are suspended for 30 days. with effect from 18th, march 2020.
3) Laying of the Budget of the local government and detailed scrutiny shall be done by the Business Committee. The Accounting Officer shall facilitate the Business Committee members as deemed necessary and ensure social distance and other protective measures.
4) The respective Loco! Government Councils will convene at a later time when the situation has normalized, in order to approve the budget, in accordance with the low.
5) Local Government Offices shall remain open during working hours. The CAO/TC, in consultation with the Chairperson/Mayor. shall select only a few essential staff to enable continuation with office business and critical services of the LG. The rest of the staff shall work from their respective homes. Ensure sanitation, hygiene and social distance at all times. The use of modern electronic means of communication is encouraged.
