President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has suspended a gathering of five people and use of private vehicles for 14 days in a bid to avoid the spread of Coronavirus in which Uganda has registered 33 cases.

The President had earlier suspended use of public transport which was perceived as a major threat in the fight against the virus.

Museveni announced the ban on Monday evening while unveiling new measures to contain the spread of coronavirus.

Museveni also ordered the closure of all shops selling non essential products.

Explaining the decision to ban private transportation, Museveni said some people had turned it into public transport which he outlawed last week.

Only shops selling food have been allowed to open.

He has since encouraged the use of deliveries.

Uganda has 33 cases of the dreaded COVID-19 that is wrecking havoc across the world.

Salons, lodges have also been banned.

Government officials have been asked to stay home for 14 days.
