The NRM government has hastily punched holes in Lt. Gen. Henry Tumukunde’s Presidential bid as a “possible move to seek a business transaction.”

The government spokesperson Mr Ofwono Opondo, shortly after the retired UPDF officer declared his ambition to stand against President Yoweri Museveni, scoffed at Tumukunde saying he has a dented public record and therefore he could have been forced to launch the bid to satisfy his ego.

“It’s his right but l think doing it more because of arrogance, false self-actualization, and perhaps as a possible business transaction,” Opondo posted on his twitter page.

His tweet has since generated debate with a small section of Ugandans supporting the former Minister of Security.

Opondo added: “Generals are appointed to lead armies, so, some of them falsely believe that they can lead under whatever circumstances.”

Opondo doubted Tumukunde’s clout saying, “basing on available public record and opinion, that he has what it takes to lead civilians and Uganda.”

Tumukunde in his letter said he joins well meaning Ugandans, to support the fundamental change which we promised Ugandans in the past, and a peaceful transition from one generation to another.

“I will be consulting on local as well as regional and international security issues, economic development, social cohesion and political harmony,” he wrote.
