Moses Byamugisha, a vibrant FDC youth attached to Dr. Kizza Besigye’s wing- The People’s Government has Monday announced he will stand for President in 2021 general elections.

Byamugisha has been opposing the regime for now 18 years and has entirely supported one man, Col. Besigye the founder for Forum for Democratic Change.

Speaking to journalists at Speke Hotel in Kampala, Byamugisha said that however, he couldn’t wait for the 18 year of struggle to usher in the change he wants because he couldn’t anticipate as to when FDC could take power.

“As young leaders we think there should be a young layer of another leadership within the People’s Government,” said Byamugisha who in 2017 stood for FDC party president but lost.

He said his campaign hinges on two fundamental principles; Championing an Inclusive Youth led Change and a Negotiated Transition.

Byamugisha says whereas Uganda is transforming, institutions have not involved the youth in grabbing a stake in this country.

“My Presidency will revive the vibrancy of the young people who can be able to raise in their various political groupings. I want the young people to be able to have a conversation together, whether they are in NRM or security,” he said.

On transition, Byamugisha said once he takes power, he will offer all those who have been running the previous government (NRM) to negotiate their out of leadership.

“Not that we negotiate how to share power, but how they will leave. Whether they will be prosecuted or not, how they return the properties they acquired illegally and many more,” he added.

Byamugisha also commended the regime for the slow progress; “where we were in 1986 isn’t where we are now.”
