A new rebel outfit, Federation for National Liberation (FNL) operating in the Southern parts of Rwanda in Nyungwe Forests has resumed fighting government forces.
According to an insider in Kigali, the rebels killed a captain whose names have been withheld and a number of RDF combatants.
In a heavy gunfire exchange, RDF managed to capture 70 rebels, an insider adds.
Rwanda Special Forces soldiers who have been conducting an operation in the Nyungwe forests have told their commanders that they are fighting a well trained rebel group whose tactics are extraordinary.
A source said the rebels captured in the fierce battle are being detained at Kami Military Barracks.
A solider who who has been involved in the fighting is quoted to have confessed that the rebels are very tactical and it won’t be easy to defeat them.
