Opposition legislator attached to People Power Movement Hon Medard Segona has questioned the brilliance of First Son Muhoozi Kainerugaba who on Friday was elevated to the rank of Lieutenant General.

He was among tens of army officers promoted by the Commander in Chief of UPDF President Yoweri Museveni who is also his father.

Muhoozi’s fast rise in the military has for long drawn ire and debate among the section of the public particularly opposition politicians who think he is being favoured by the appointing authority.

Busiro East lawmaker, is joins a bandwagon of the critics questioning Muhoozi’s rise despite attaining sophisticated training from Sandhurst

military academy.

“How brilliant is Muhoozi who is a Lt. Gen without firing a single shot,” Segona commented on Monday morning while appearing on a local TV.

The notion among Ugandans is that for one to be promoted to such a powerful rank, the soldier must be battle hardened which is different from Muhoozi’s case.

Most of the soldiers with Muhoozi’s current rank are those who fought during 1980 a war that ushered in the current regime, NRM.

However, Segona acknowledges Muhoozi has the academic qualifications to have that rank.

But UPDF Spokesperson Brig. Richard Karemire responded to Segona’s remarks as “cheap talk.”

Karemire earlier indicated army promostions that promotions are based on record of service, due for retirement, after passing promotional examinations, and many more.
