Last Friday, Security operations were carried out against a group of armed thugs in areas of Buziga after a tip off by some members of the public.

An assortment of both Military and Police stores were recovered from the suspects including an AK 47 Number UG-POL 46016976-15257 belonging to UPF with 29 rounds

During the operation, the following suspects were apprehended;

ROV 11540 Lt Tobias Turyabaruhanga, a retired UPDF officer and a resident of Entebbe

RA/209126 Lance Corporal Muzoora Benjamin,a UPDF deserter

ASP Bishaka Godson, an OC of Kikumbi Police Station in Najjanankumbi

Mutagi Gerald, a resident of Entebbe.

“This information is shared to all security agencies in the fight against criminality and as soon as investigations are completed, the suspects shall be produced before courts of law for eventual prosecution,” Deputy Defence publicist Deo Akiiki said.

Contrary to media reports that the operation was carried out by CMI, instead it was conducted by Internal Security Organization (ISO). However, joint operations to get rid of armed criminal gangs across Kampala, Mukono, Wakiso and other parts of the country will continue and those involved shall be dealt with accordingly.

We would like to thank the public for its increased vigilance, timely reporting and information sharing that has led to several successful operations against such criminals.

Security agencies shall continue to work together in an effort of keeping the country safe and free for the business community and all Ugandans in general.

Any member of the armed forces whether retired, deserter or serving, that involves himself or herself in such acts commits a grave offence that attracts a maximum punishment as stipulated in our laws. We condemn such actions by individuals and reiterate our commitment to weed out anyone who veers off the strict code of conduct of our institutions.
