Ugandans Spend More on Food and Soda-UBOS Survey

A typical Ugandan meal with accompanying juice. Ugandans are reportedly spending nearly half their incomes on food.

With a growing population and more mouths to feed, Ugandans are spending nearly half of their incomes on food,and non alcoholic beverages like soda, juice, milk and mineral water

This startling revelation from the Uganda National Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) National Household Survey also shows that many people are spending quite a sum on alcohol and cigarettes

In the survey that was meant to capture how Ugandan Households spend their money,food and non-alcoholic beverages topped the list with a  (42.9%) rating.

Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and other fuels came second at (18.1%) while Transport was third at (7.5%).

Education is equally important. Over  (7.3%) of Ugandans money was being spent on learning.

Other areas where Ugandans were spending a considerable sum of money included Health (4.7%), Non-consumption expenditures (4.2%) Miscellaneous goods and services (3.8%), Furnishing, Household equipment’s (3.4%), Communication (3%), Clothing and Foot wear (2.3%), Recreation and culture (1.2%), Alcohol, beverages, Tobacco and Narcotics (1.1%)
