The Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development on Tuesday handed over 161 motorcycles and 163 computers to the support the implementation of Youth Livelihood Program (YLP) and Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP) to districts and municipalities across the country.

Several district leaders converged at Kireka Rehabilitation Center to receive the boost at a function presided over by the Ministry’s permanent secretary (PS) Pius Bigirimana and State Minister of Youth and Children Affairs Hon Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi.

The focal point persons will use these equipment in monitoring and assessing the performance of the two projects.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Bigirimana the initiator of these concepts thanked Bushenyi and Kisoro districts for the tremendous performance in utilizing and refunding the money, “this is because the political and technical leaders of these two districts work together.”

He further expressed his gratitude to the political and technical leadership of Local Government Ministry for increasing efforts in monitoring and issuing guidelines to beneficiaries of these projects.

He urged District Chief Administrative Officers (CAOs) to watch those intending to misuse the motorcycles for personal businesses, warning that, “if found you will be arrested as we have already alerted the IGP.”

Minister Nakiwala, in her speech emphasized that the YLP performance has shot up with 67% of the beneficiaries returning the funds.

She reiterated that the equipment should serve the purpose to which it has been procured, and anyone who misuses will be held liable.
