Opposition kingpin Col Kizza Besigye has lashed out at state operatives who inflicted grave injuries on Mukono Municipality legislator Betty Nambooze, advising them to pick lessons from Gen Kale Kayihura who is currently under key and lock in a military facility at Makindye Barracks.
Kayihura was once a powerful army general christened Museveni’s blue-eyed boy while serving as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for 13 years.
In his leadership, Kayihura attracted condemnation while he crashed, thwarted protests engineered by state opponents as they expressed discontent to the regime.
Kizza Besigye on the vanguard of the fight against state oppression was arrested on many occasions by Kayihura’s led police, prosecuted and imprisoned.
But not long enough, Kizza Besigye now walks freely on the streets of Kampala while Kayihura is confined waiting for his fate as he and faces charges worse than those previously leveled against the opposition Godfather.
Among the cases include the assassination of a promising junior officer AIGP Andrew Felix Kawesi, espionage and kidnaps of Rwandan refugees.
Besigye who is well known for not venturing into vendetta would sometimes feel sorry for the person of Kayihura saying he is being used and soon his time would be up- indeed, the pencil thin four star General is in jail- unbelievable but true.
On Monday, Besigye again warned police operatives that they will soon walk in Kayihura’s footmarks shouldn’t they pick a leaf from the General’s woes.
He was visiting Hon Betty Nambooze whose health deteriorates each day at Kirudu Hospital.
Nambooze claims to have been tortured by police officers as she was arrested two weeks ago.
She is linked to the murder of fellow lawmaker Ibrahim Abiriga who was shot dead recently while he returned home.
Nambooze’s ordeal stems on her past remarks she made while condemning Abriga who played a role in the lifting of age limit.
Abiriga and a number of other ruling MPs openly supported scrapping the age cap to enable President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni contest again at 75 years of age.
Earlier, the constitution stipulated that no leader was supposed to hold office past the age cap.
As the debate raged on between opposition and ruling MPs in Parliament, the two parties would later be embroiled in a fierce battle on the Hansard attracting intervention of external security force.
During this fight Nambooze and other MPs were injured and she was flown to India for medical treatment.
Besigye, a professional doctor upon visiting Nambooze at Kirudu observed that her condition is worse than when she was taken to India.
“She is doing badly compared to when she was flown out of the country last year,” he said.
He was quick to warn those bigheaded state agents who have failed to learn from what is happening to Kayihura.
“We shall single out individuals in the force and take them to the courts of law. They will face the charges and individuals. Their time is coming,” Besigye said on Monday.
