FDC founder Kizza Besigye has wondered what ‘political gadget’ JEEMA party members are using to determine that Asuman Basalirwa’s popularity in upcoming Bugiri Municipality is ‘unmatched’.

The four time presidential hopeful reiterated that he will support the FDC candidate, unlike reports that he would sympathize with Basalirwa, his longtime ally who in 2015 betrayed him by backing former premier Amama Mbabazi as joint opposition candidate.

Little did Basalirwa know he was digging his own political grave especially at a point that Mbabazi lost on both fronts- failing to assume TDA office and also take Presidency.

In fact at some point Basalirwa was Besigye lawyer who represented him in court during Walk To Work Protests.

A horde of opposition fanatics across the country carry a belief that for one to succeed in his/her political quest, you must attach or have the support of the most powerful opposition leader in the land.

“Besigye can make or break.”

Speaking to an online news site Nile Post earlier Tuesday, the FDC honcho categorically stated that his stance on backing a party candidate hasn’t changed.

Nominations for the candidates were supposed to take place yesterday and today but they were delayed by a court injunction.

Besigye whose campaign rotates around ‘people power’ questioned the audacity JEEMA has to declare Basilirwa more popular than any other candidates in the race.

“I am involved in a campaign to get power from the junta back to the people so I cannot support an idea of a clique of us in Kampala imposing a candidate on people who have a right to elect their representatives,” Besigye wondered.

He further queried which scientific method Basalirwa and group used.

Asked if he was revenging since Basalirwa didn’t support him in 2016, Besigye said he doesn’t venture into vendetta but his principle has always been the people of Uganda should be at the center of decision making in Uganda.

Eunice Namatende is the official candidate of FDC.
