The Rukungiri Woman MP by- election which is undoubtedly going to have NRM battle FDC to take the seat is in top gear.
Yesterday, FDC stalwarts plus other Opposition bigwigs stormed Rukungiri in huge numbers to have their candidate Betty Muzanira nominated.
The same however cannot be said of the NRM camp where their candidate Winnie Matsiko was nominated.
With a lukewarm crowd and no big names to accompany her, Matsiko who lost the election petition and is re-contesting is in a panicky mood.
NRM’s Electoral Commission Chairman however says the party is strategizing on how to reclaim their seat.
Addressing the Media, Tanga Odoi said they were rallying their party members to overlook tribal, religious, wealth taunts that have repeatedly plagued and divided their party leading to the loss of some of the win-able by-elections, like the Jinja East election where FDC’s Paul Mwiru trounced NRM’s Igeme Nabeta to capture the parliamentary seat.
“We have talked to our members to stop the divisions along tribal, wealth and religious divisions. Unlike other elections, this one should be easy for us to win since our concentration will be in one constituency”

On his exit, FDC top dog Kizza Besigye too attacked the district where he was welcomed, and told residents not to be fooled by the Presidential hand-outs.
The Rukungiri By-election is poised to be one of the biggest battle fronts between NRM and FDC since the district is home to FDC Boss Kizza Besigye, and other NRM bigwigs including Jim Muhwezi, General Henry Tumukunde.
