Hassan Kamba, the legal officer of Hon Kenneth Lubogo is accused of witch-hunting Simon Muyanga Lutaya as a means of recovering his legal fees.
Muyanga who was Monday sent to Kirinya Prison for six months over failure to pay shs 57 million to his rival Hon Lubogo as costs after he lost an election petition claims his ordeal is largely a result of the unresolved differences between Lubogo and his lawyer Kamba who handled the case in both the High Court and Court of Appeal but had instructions withdrawn from him when he started the process of recovering the awarded costs.
Kamba claims his legal fees were not cleared but Hon. Lubogo insists that he cleared all the fees and therefore had no claim on the court awarded costs.
It should be noted that an audio clip allegedly of Mr Lubogo, made rounds on WhatsApp on Monday where he denies having any hand in the arrest and committal to prison of Mr Muyanga.
This website has further learnt that the actual outstanding balance is shs 51 million and not 57 million as earlier reported.
Muyanga told a group of wellwishers who paid him a visit in prison on wednesday that he had paid shs 6 million to counsel Kamba.
In January Jinja High Court issued an arrest warrant to Muyanga a former aspirant for Bulamongi Constituency Member of Parliament on FDC ticket over failure to pay court fine.
After losing an election in 2016, Muyanga filed a petition contesting the ruling National Resistance Movement party (NRM)’s Kenneth Lubogo’s victory but he lost both cases at Jinja High Court and Court of Appeal.
High Court deputy registrar, Mr Jesse Byaruhanga issued the arrest warrant after Muyanga allegedly failed to honour court summons which was he described as a contempt of court.
