Tamale Mirundi, a presidential advisor on media affairs, has ridiculed IGP Okoth Ochola saying he shouldn’t have accepted the new appointment.

Adding that he deserved to retire because he will bring nothing new  to the institution.

Ochola, a former deputy IGP, last week took office as Kayihura’s successor.

On Monday, Ocholas issued a communiqué reshuffling senior police officers at the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP).

According to a message to all police units and copied to the Deputy IGP Brig.Muzeeyi Sabiiti and all police directors dated March 19, Assistant Inspector General of Police Abbas Byakagaba has been appointed the new police director in charge of Counter Terrorism.

Byakabaga has been the Director in charge of Oil and Gas, a position he was appointed to, a few months ago.

He replaces AIGP John Ndugutse who has been also serving as the police attache in Kenya a position he retains.

The new changes by Ochola have also seen Senior Superintendent of Police Ezekiel Emitu dropped as deputy Kampala Metropolitan commander to be appointed as Regional Police Commander for Aswa region.

Ochola’s changes are seen as reverses of Gen Kale Kayihura’s previous appointments.

But Mirundi criticised Ochola saying his reshuffles are inconsequential because he is ‘pressing a wrong button.’

Mirundi insists, the directorate of criminal investigations headed by Grace Akullo deserved those changes to work effectively.

He said it’s CID that handles criminal investigations, therefore responsible for curbing the increasing criminality.

Mirundi is a well known ally of sacked police chief who many believe left behind a grim legacy.
