The ruling party NRM has vowed to petition Court challenging FDC candidate Paul Mwiru’s election as Jinja East legislator.

Mwiru won the hotly contested race on Thursday and was declared by the Electoral Commission.

Mwiru garnered 6654 votes while his rival the NRM candidate Nabeta Nathan Igeme got 5043 according to the official results.

On Thursday, the NRM secretary general Justine Kasule Lumumba said Mwiru’s election was “riddled with various electoral malpractices like multiple voting, voter bribery and intimidation of voters.”

Lumumba said they had instructed the party’s legal team to assess the evidence and advise on appropriate action.

“An election is a process not an event.”
