Military Intelligence (CMI) has in detention Huzair Kiwalabye a brother of Abdullah Kitatta a close ally of Police Chief Gen Kale Kayihura.

According to a local online publication SoftPower News, Huzair was arrested with several other boda boda cyclists belonging to Boda Boda 2010 to which Kitatta is a patron.

This group is a well known creation of Gen Kayihura to abet in fighting increased criminality in the city.

The arrests made by CMI  are in connection to the grisly murder of Francis Ekalungar an accountant of Case Clinic who was burnt in Kajjansj, a few kilometres from Kampala City.

Ekalungar was reported missing by the Hospital authorities only to be discovered dead a day after.

“Kyengera township in Wakiso district was a scene of heavy gun fire on Friday night as operatives from military intelligence (CMI) arrested some members of the notorious city group, Boda Boda 2010,” reports SoftPower.

In protest of the arrests, members of Boda Boda 2010 blocked road and damaged property prompting Police to fire live bullets in the air to disperse the rowdy protesters.

Luke Owoyesigire the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson told the media, “We intervened and shot rounds of bullets in the air to disperse the rowdy boda boda riders”.

Owoyesigire said that police was called in after the situation turned rowdy as motor cyclists started destroying property and blocking roads leading to the city center.

The suspects are reportedly being detained at CMI headquarters in Mbuya according to media reports.

Last year a member of the association was shot
dead in Makindye division in a car robbery.
