Rwandan refugees in Uganda accuse RPF Gen Nyamvumba of abducting relatives

Accused; Gen Nyanvumba

A family of Rwandan refugees living in Ntinda a surburb of Uganda capital Kampala are accusing Rwanda Army Chief of Staff Gen Patrick Nyanvumba of kidnapping their relatives.

The family of 8 members who asked not to be named for they have been living in fear since the time they arrived in Kampala in 2012, narrated how Nyanvumba allegedly sent his bodyguard identified as Capt Petit to kidnap their grandmother known as Joylace Murungi in Rwamagana District in 2013.

They further allege the abduction was intended to black mail her grandson  John Bosco Gasasira a renowned government critic to return from exile in Sweden.

Kidnapped; Andrew Muhanguzi

Gasasira,a  journalist by proffession operated an online publication Umuvugizi which reportedly caused the deportation of Rwanda Government’s top officia Evode Mudaheranwa from Sweden.

The family went ahead to claim that one of the members Andrew Muhanguzi went missing a few years ago while he was returning home in Ntinda.

“Our ordeal began the day our brother Gasasira exposed Evode as a spy in Sweden and how he was torturing most of the Rwandese there,” they said.

They say that some members had a few years ago been detained in Rwanda and tortured in a safe house but received no medical treatment.

They further aver that operatives from Rwanda government trail them most of the time.

But Rwandan Ambassador Maj. Gen Frank Mugambagye had termed these reports as rumours saying he couldn’t respond to allegations.

In Ntinda, the family resorted to staying live indoors after their brother Muhanguzi exposed himself and was reportedly kidnapped.

They said they reported the case to Kyanja police post but hadn’t received feedback.
“Up to now Police has never got back to us,” they said.
