UCC manager Akulia sacked for declining transfer

Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) Executive Director Godfrey Mutabazi has written to Josephine Akulia an assistant officer- administration corporate affairs terminating her contract.

This follows her deliberate refusal to be redeployed to her new work station in Mbale regional office.

Dated August 1, a letter signed by Godrey Mutabazi, the executive director of the commission, indicates that Akulia was on June 13, 2017 re-deployed and transferred to Mbale Regional Office where she was supposed to begin working starting June 19, 2017.

However, she has “not commenced duties at” her “new duty station.”

Letter terminating Akulia’s contract

Basing on that, the statement also copied to Director Finance, Director Human Resource and Administration, Senior Officer Regional Office-Mbale, reads: “Your employment contract has been terminated with immediate effect.”

Akulia was therefore asked to handover all the commission properties in her possession among them identity card and “medical cards for yourself and your dependants.”

Mutabazi’s letter says the Accounts Office will process her terminal payments when her handover report has been received by the commission.

“Accounts sections will process your terminal payments as hereunder after receipt of an acceptable handover report from you. (i) one month’s salary in lieu of notice, (ii) gratuity accruing as at 1st august 2017 and (iii) outstanding leave if any,” reads the letter.
