Government denies grabbing Munyonyo Resort from Sudhir

Kamuntu, President Museveni and delegates pose for a photo at State House on Wednesday

Government has issued a warning to the media and members of the public against peddling falsehoods that it is planning to take away Speak Resort Munyonyo from its owner Sudhir Ruparelia.

Recently government owned newspaper Ne Vision published a headline saying business mogul Sudhir is being forced to surrender the multibillion Resort.

Sudhir’s woes hinge on a recent court case in which Bank of Uganda accuse him of causing a financial loss totalling to shs 400bn in defunct Crane Bank.

Last year in October Bank of Uganda took over operations of Crane Bank before selling its assets and liabilities to DFCU Bank last January.

Tourism Minister Ephraim Kamuntu sounded warning on Wednesday following launch of the Giants club conservation and investment forum at state House Entebbe by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

Kamuntu dismissed reports as unfounded adding that, “there is no such move” and advised the public to separate Crrane Bank activities from Munyonyo Resort.

Kamuntu said that much as there is a crisis over Crane Bank, Government will protect Munyonyo to avoid disruption of hospitality.

The resort has played key role in tourism sector by offering extraordinary services to tourists.

The Giants club is an initiative mobilising and Governments into wildlife conservation especially protection of Elephants.
