Rwanda’s military says a 52-year-old woman has been killed in an attack by unknown gunmen in the South-western district of Rusizi near the Burundi border.
The military spokesman Col. Rene Ngendahimana says the attack occurred late Tuesday in the same area where gunmen killed two civilians in March and fled into Burundian territory.
Ngendahimana says eight others were injured in this latest attack.
He says it is not yet known whether the attackers came from Burundi.
It will be remembered that earlier this year in March Gunmen suspected to have come from Burundi attacked Rusizi district killing two local who were on a night patrol locally known as Irondo.
Tensions between the two countries have been high with the Burundi government accusing Rwanda of training rebel to overthrow Nkurunziza which the Rwanda government denies.
