Exclusive: Ibanda NRM Mayor robbed of shs 50m campaign cash

Robbed; Mulinde

Ibanda Town Mayor Deusdedit Mulinde has been left speechless after robbers vandalised his home and walked away with millions of money.

These unidentified goons orchestrated the robbery last Saturday night when Mulinde was out of the house meeting his campaign managers to strategize for the upcoming Municipality election.

Ibanda town was recently upgraded into a Municipality.

Mulinde who will contest on the NRM ticket faces stiff resistance from FDC heavyweight Bishanga Tarsis Rwaburindore who has increasingly threatened his candidature.

This website has gathered that although Electoral Commission is yet to issue an electoral program for Municipality polls, the two rivals have literary kicked off campaigns by swaying away voters with liquid cash and other material things.

Robbery

According to a resident who asked to remain anonymous, Mulinde divulged to police authorities that last week he sold 20 cows and after payment he kept the money in a safe in his bedroom.

Mulinde is s shrewd businessman and owns a mega resort in Ibanda Town. He is also into fuel business.

“The only person who knew about the safe in my bedroom Julius Blainda,” a visibly raged Mulinde is quoted to have told police.

Balinda is a son- in-law to Tibanyendera Kafura, a former town clerk who also wields political influence in the area.

Balinda, was Mulinde’s best friend before the two fell out prompting him (Blainda) to join the rival camp (FDC).

He is now the chief campaigner of Rwaburindore.

How the robbery was executed left residents in shock as Mulinde maintains that his opponents must have hired goons (kifesi) from Kampala.

“No one from Ibanda can open this safe or even break it,” Mulinde said.

He further wondered how the robbers learnt how he had sold his cows and kept money in the house.

Police has since started investigations.

Ibanda is a NRM stronghold where the ruling party has had an upper hand in every election.

Last year locals voted President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni with 86%. In 1996, Ibanda elected Museveni with the record 98% beating other districts in the country.
