The Red Pepper managing editor Ben Byarabaha has been charged with offensive communication and released on police bond.

He appeared before the media crime docket at CID headquarters having been summoned for publishing story recently that portrayed police chief Gen Kale Kayihura as sick and bedridden in India.

The summons indicated that Byarabaha was disturbing Kayihura’s peace.

But police authorities rushed to dismiss the article as false and peddled by people with fertile imaginations.

Byarabaha appeared at CID on Tuesday and was quizzed for 5 hours and later given bond.

He will return to the Kibuli on June 27 for mention of his charges.
