Excitement as Bobi Wine is nominated for Kyadondo MP seat

Bobi Wine accompanied by his wife Barbe arrives for nomination

Ugandan singer Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has on Wednesday morning been nominated to stand for Kyadondo East Parliamentary by-election.

Bobi Wine has come as an independent candidate after he disagreed with his party FDC which instead favoured Apollo Kantinti.

Electoral Commission nominated him at Kasangati Saza grounds.

Thousands of his supporters thronged the notorious town of Kasagati which harbours opposition icon Kizza Besigye to show support for Bobi Wine whose loyalty for Besigye is no public secret.

Yesterday FDC top leadership approached Bobi to lobby for their candidate Apollo Kantinti who also faces the ruling National Resistance Movement [NRM] candidate, Sitenda Sebalu.

Sebalu who lost the 2016 Kyadondo East Constituency polls by only 14 votes is now optimistic of winning the seat in the June 26 by-election with a big margin.

After nomination

Kantinti is sure of retaining the seat, or so it seemed, until today when FDC made it clear that the musician’s involvement could cost them the seat.

The singer was escorted by dozens of his fans cheering his new title “honourable”, his wife Barbie Kyagulanyi and singer Ronald Mayinja, among others

Bobi Wine assured the voters that the contest isn’t a war between personalities or political parties but a game of leadership where the a number of Ugandans have been sidelined and no longer have a voice.
